SHARON Parker Glass Reflections

My glass journey began with mosaic.... When I was pregnant with my twins, my version of 'nesting' was to make mosaic pictures from cut-out tiles. From mosaic with tiles, I graduated to cutting up glass sheets. One day in late 2022 I was at the glass shop buying art glass and I noticed the kilns.... I asked the owner about them, and he advised ordering about six months in advance. I went home and typed in 'glass kiln' into Gumtree. Six minutes previously, a brand-new unused glass kiln had been advertised at a second hand price. This felt like fate. I spent about five minutes googling that price was ok, and then within ten minutes of looking, I was the owner of a new kiln!
Then of course began the real learning.... beginning with how to get the kiln to my house as it was incredibly heavy! The next challenge was getting it wired up to electricity, which needed an electrician and a lot of patience as a special part needed to be order. Finally, it was ready to go, and I have never looked back from this time! Whilst I still do mosaic when I go on vacation and don't have a kiln nearby, and whilst I have also begun to dabble in lampwork, my real passion is fusing as I love the unpredictability of it, the infinite things you can do, and most of all the magic of opening the kiln lid to see what has happened!
I've also experimented a bit with lampwork (making beads in front of a torch). I confess I dont enjoy it quite as much as fusing as it takes a great deal of skill that I dont yet have, but the big advantage is that its transportable, so again, a great thing to do when on holidays.
