About Sharon's Glass

I am a kiln-formed glass artist and mosaicist from Perth, Western Australia. I enjoy expressing my love of flowers, trees, birds and other forms of nature through unique colour and texture combinations. Just as people and their lives change, glass shifts from rigid states, morphs, melts and re-solidifies, often in unexpected and inspiring ways.  Nothing beats opening the kiln to see the unpredictable results of playing with glass. I have exhibited my glass in WA Glass Society Exhibitions, and my work has been described by attendees as "bold", "joyful", and "uniquely Australian'.

MY journey

My glass journey began over 20 years ago with mosaics. Mosaicing was my way of 'nesting' when I was pregnant. I began with ceramics and tiles, but then moved on to art glass.

It was at an art glass shop that I first had the idea of glass fusing. I saw some kilns for sale and got curious. I was told by the shop owner that kilns took over six months to arrive, so if I wanted one, I should order as soon as possible.

That same day I went home and went on gumtree, a second-hand sales website. Six minutes earlier someone had advertised a paragon kiln - never used - that had been imported years earlier from the US. I snapped it up before I had a chance to think.

And then the learnig began! The first challenge was getting it home (it weighed an enormous amount), then getting it connected (required its own power supply), and then finally learning how to use it.

Through you tube and the occassional class, I have been fusing for about three years. I am completely hooked! The unpredictability of glass is what I most love. And I get excited by the infinite number of techniques and possibiliies.  I especially love flowers, trees, and sea themes, and I enjoy playing with colour.

In 2024 and 2025, I submitted my work to be part of the WA Glass Society Exhbitions here in Perth. It was thrilling to sell several pieces, and in 2025, I came third in the People's Choice Award.

I hope you enjoy browsing my work. Unfortunately I don't love website design as much as I love glass so apologies in advance if there are few little gremlins!

BEYOND GLASS

My day job is as a John Curtin Distinguished Professor of Organizational Psychology at Curtin University. I have three teenage daughters and a guitar-playing partner (who is also a Professor). I grew up on a farm near Kojonup, and have lived in many different places including Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and the UK. I enjoy traveling, reading, swimming,  hanging out with friends and family, and of course, playing with glass.
